Jalaja Bonheim, a wonderful workshop leader, counselor, and writer, offers us a fascinating and well-written book which explores women's experiences of spiritual journey within the context of their sexuality and sexual expression. She encourages the reader to honor the sacredness of sexuality and includes childbearing as part of sexuality. Chapter 26, Initiations of the Female Body, focuses on pregnancy, birth, midwifery, and abortion within the framework of spiritual journey, soul-making, "...embodiment of the sacred feminine..." and initiation into the role of the priestess. "Every woman who says yes or no to her pregnancy...steps into the role of priestess, shamaness, guardian of the threshold between the spirit realms and the embodied world." I could not put this book down. I highly recommend it.
