My Life in Birth, The Memoirs of Elisabeth Bing by Elisabeth Bing (Lamaze International, 2000)
 |
| Elisabeth Bing (l) and Dr. Issokson |
In November, I had the pleasure of meeting Elisabeth Bing when she was in town to speak at the Schlesinger Library at Radcliffe College and to sign over her personal papers to the Schlesinger Library archives. According to Libby Coleman, who wrote the forward to this book, "Elisabeth has been called a living legend, a prenatal guru, the Mother Superior of ASPO and the grand dame of Lamaze."
Elisabeth Bing is an 86 year old woman who continues to teach childbirth classes, inspire childbirth professionals and advocate for humane and family-centered birth practices. She has the gifts of history and perspective from which she can help us understand the changing tides in childbirth practices. Her passion, commitment, and desire to live a full and meaningful life provide us with a wonderful model on which to base our lives as professionals working in a challenging, provocative, life-changing field.
