Unspeakable Losses
by Kim Kluger-Bell (W.W. Norton & Co., 1998)
This is a wonderful, well-written book that unveils the meanings that reproductive losses have for those who endure them, meanings which live right below the surface of silence that often surrounds reproductive loss. Kluger-Bell conscientiously addresses all forms of childbearing loss: early and late pregnancy loss, abortion, stillbirth, neonatal death, and terminations and fetal reductions that result after technologically achieved pregnancies. Men's experiences of childbearing loss are given ample consideration in this book as well. The book concludes with three appendices that clearly outline helpful information for those coping with reproductive loss, for friends and family members and for medical and mental health professionals. There is a comprehensive bibliography and a resource list of on-line Internet sites and organizations that support those experiencing reproductive loss.
